New Hope for Kids was recently selected to receive Disney’s “Helping Kids Shine” grant, the premier charitable giving program for the Walt Disney World Resort. This program provides funding for organizations or agency programs that focus on four specific ways of helping children: connecting with adults, constructive use of free time, character development, and compassion. Rick Allen, general manager of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and fellow NHFK board member, presented a $25,000 check to staff and board members on May 18, 2010. Mr. Allen stated that this is the highest recognition in community relations awarded by Disney.
New Hope is just what grieving kids need
March 14, 2010 | By Scott Maxwell, TAKING NAMES
I’m sitting cross-legged on my little mat.
Twelve of us – seven children and five adults – form a circle, tossing a brightly colored beach ball back and forth.
It looks like play time. Only there is nothing playful about what brought us together.
The children have lost their mommies and daddies. To disease, suicide, even murder.

Who would have ever imagined during such tough economic times that folks in Central Florida would open their hearts and wallets in such a big way for kids they don’t even know?! We’ve always realized we have the best supporters in the world, but you have amazed us once again by providing over 2,700 gifts through your donations of toys and financial support of our 2009 Toy Drive. Because of your generosity we were able to bring smiles to the faces of over 500 children in our grief and wish programs (the most kids ever!) and smiles to their parents and caregivers as well. More than ever before, we heard “if it wasn’t for New Hope for Kids my children wouldn’t have anything under the tree this year.”
